Downtown Blacksburg Inc. is proud to present our business Member of the Month for January 2019- Kent Jewelers.
Marla Kemsey moved to Blacksburg in 1981 from Western Pennsylvania. After graduating from Radford University and starting her family, Marla opened her first business Chantilly Lace Bridals, Formals, and Tuxedo’s in 1990 in Downtown Blacksburg. Chantilly Lace outgrew the space on the corner of Main and Lee, and in 1994 moved to University Blvd, where it is still located today. In an effort to continue to grow the small business culture in Blacksburg, in 2004 Custom Jewelers was opened, and became the first business in the new Kent Square Building. Shortly thereafter, with the goal of remaining an established business in Downtown Blacksburg, and identifying as such, the store became Kent Jewelers.
Since its inception, Kent Jewelers has been dedicated to celebrating life’s most important milestones with a commitment to excellent service and a passion to inspire ourselves and each other beyond our potential. With this goal in mind, and to continue to provide exceptional customer service, the store added Michelle Curry to the Kent Jewelers family in 2015. Michelle is originally from Martinsville and graduated from Radford University in 2009. During her time at Radford, she realized her love for the NRV, and after graduation decided to continue her life here. Michelle has been working locally in the jewelry business for over seven years, and recently started her family.
Michelle and Marla are enthusiastic supporters of locally owned business and recognize the contributions the student population makes to our community, and are diligent supporters of a vibrant and successful downtown. Together, they are committed to providing the best customer service and highest quality merchandise to southwestern Virginia.
Kent Jewelers specializes in offering the finest diamonds available, engagement rings, wedding bands, designer gemstone, and sterling silver jewelry, in addition jewelry and watch repair services.
“…Kent Jewelers was absolutely incredible and by far the best. From the moment I stepped through the doors I felt like they actually cared about finding the perfect ring for my special lady. I worked with the owner and both store associates, and I seriously cannot recommend them more. Yesterday my fiancé and I went back to Kent Jewelers for our wedding bands, and they remembered me! They took the time to look at photos of our engagement and asked about our wedding plans. Throughout this whole process it has been so clear that Kent Jewelers takes pride in their work and truly cares about their clients.” – Joe Fabrizi
Marla raised three daughters in Blacksburg and is strongly committed to community and social justice. She currently serves on the Downtown Blacksburg Inc. Board, and organizes the annual Pretty in Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser for Downtown Blacksburg.
