Downtown Blacksburg Inc. is proud to present our non-profit Member of the Month for November, the Smithfield-Preston Foundation which operates Historic Smithfield,
an original, Colonial Virginia frontier home which has the distinction of being the oldest frame house west of the Blue Ridge – Historic Smithfield Plantation.

Dating to 1774, Smithfield was the home of Southwest Virginia surveyor, soldier and statesmen William Preston and his large and notable family.
Smithfield is on the National Register of Historic Places, the Virginia Landmarks Register and is a member of The New River Heritage Coalition.

Historic Smithfield offers house tours, educational outreach, unique demonstrations, and features a popular Wedding and special event Pavilion, all very close to the Virginia
Tech Campus near the Duck Pond. Upcoming events include “A Colonial Christmas at XMASSmithfield” on December 1st and 2nd, featuring a weekend of holiday tea, sweet and savory refreshments, period musical entertainment and shopping in our museum store!
