Downtown Blacksburg Inc. is proud to present our non-profit Member of the Month for October 2018- Montgomery County Educational Foundation!

The Montgomery County Educational Foundation (MCEF) is the non-profit organization that supports Montgomery County Public Schools.

Since 2012, the MCEF has provided over $197,000 for 183 grants and programs in our schools. Most of these funds are awarded as small grants up to $1,000 directly to MCPS educators for creative and innovative classroom projects that fall outside the scope of public funding. In addition to these small projects, the MCEF also supports county-wide initiatives such as the award-winning Work-Based Learning program, Winning Choices, the Christiansburg Institute Museum, and our annual Poetry Contest.

The MCEF is currently in its annual educator grant cycle and is seeking grant sponsors from local businesses and organizations. For more information on the projects funded or to learn how to sponsor a grant, visit their website at

The mission of the Montgomery County Educational Foundation is to provide financial support to enable students, teachers, and administrators to discover, advance, and enhance educational opportunities. An investment in our schools is an investment in this community and the development of productive global citizens. The Foundation’s goals include:

Seek and develop avenues for businesses, individuals, and organizations to contribute to MCPS.

Provide opportunities beyond the scope of available public resources in preschool through 12th grade.

Provide resources for creativity and innovative programs and materials.

Strengthen educational leadership to improve student achievement.
