 Downtown Blacksburg Inc. is proud to present our non-profit Member of the Month for April 2018- The Cranwell International Center!

Join us for the 59th Annual International Street Fair, Sunday, April 22, 2018

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to experience 30 countries in one day?

On Sunday April 22nd from 12 Noon to 4:00 PM in the Squires Parking Lot at Virginia Tech you will have a chance to do just that!

This free to attend event is presented by the Council of International Students Assembly and Cranwell International Center at Virginia Tech. Attendees can learn about customs and traditions from international students while they watch skillful dancers transport them to countries with music and beautiful traditional wear from around the world. There will be interactive cultural presentations from each of the international groups like traditional tea ceremonies, demonstrated traditional games like Cricket,  live demonstrations of arts and crafts like Japanese origami and henna designs from India.  Visitors have the opportunity to learn dances like tinikling, a traditional Filipino dance, and other dance steps from Africa.   Each space under the big tents has something to offer and visitors can learn basic language greetings and how to write their name in different languages taught by the students.  There will also be items available for purchase like jewelry, clothing, henna art and crafts, pre-packaged foods from their countries like mango juice, baklava and Israeli chocolate, chips from Oman, just to name a few!  Sales of these items go to benefit the student organizations.

Watch live performances from the New River Irish Dance School, Hill & Veil Middle Eastern Dance Association at Virginia Tech, Chinese Yo-Yo Demonstrations & a Special “Flower Dance” from the Blacksburg Chinese School, Salsa Tech Performance Team, dance performance from the Japanese Cultural Association, Exodus at Virginia Tech (K-Pop Dance and Performance Group), Ole at VT – Virginia Tech’s Flamenco Dance Group, Odiney Alvarez, Diversity of Middle Eastern Dances from Tunisia, Egypt, & Turkey, and Music by The Sun Dogs –Mozaiko Living and Learning Community Band throughout the day and a Global Fashion Show!

Bring your children to visit the Global Kids booth sponsored by the Children’s Museum Blacksburg (CMB) and make your fun passport for traveling at the fair! Children will also be able to make traditional crafts from countries from around the world, like Tulips from Holland, Click Clacks castanets, and make your own rain stick from Chile & Argentina.  Macaroni Kid will be there to help children make international flags, and the Blacksburg Library will join the CMB and will be on hand to help children make “henna hands”.

Be sure to come hungry and taste the delicious food provided by an assortment of international food trucks like Thai This (Thai Food), Hanu Truck (Korean Food), Paella Perfecta (Spanish food, and winner of the 2017 Virginia Food Truck Wars), Las Delicias (El Salvadorian and Mexican foods), and Homestead Creamery (ice cream) will be on site. Come on out and help us to make this the best street fair yet!
